The film "Belle de jour " by Luis Buñuel (1967) tells the story of Serizy Séverine (Catherine Deneuve ), a woman of twenty-three years, but beyond that the story tells the fantasy dreams, nightmares of Séverine. He does, as if between history and fantasy there was no interruption. There is no separation, is a unity that is sometimes difficult to distinguish, without any sense of ambiguity, however obscure, of indeterminacy. The game first and then , called flashback, is conducted with such visual and narrative force that almost no one notices, as if it took place in a single linear time, not cyclical, in which the linearity first and then disappears. The irony, the grotesque, even the humor help keep the film - and therefore that we look - in a situation of separation involved, in the end we ask ourselves: "What if the whole movie was not a dream , truer than true? " The ending reinforces this sensation, a final clear, but open. A question which in itself is the answer.

beginning of the film, Séverine is in a carriage with her husband Serizy Pierre (Jean Sorel ), a successful physician, who is in love her. The two seem to spin the perfect love, beautiful, young, rich and in love, but it is not, because Séverine is not available for sex. Here enters the first fantasy: Séverine Pierre punishing whip making with their hands tied by the two coachmen. Séverine enjoys being naked and then kissed her on the shoulder by one of the two.

the beautiful house they live in, Severine and Pierre seem happy, caress, but Séverine Pierre told to wait, not yet ready to make love with him. A family friend, Henry Husson (Michel Piccoli ), is courting a Séverine, although the lover of her best friend, Renee (Macha Meril ). Renée by Séverine learn that their mutual friend every day he attended a brothel. Séverine is shocked. At home, she finds a bouquet of red roses sent to it from Husson. Annoyed, move the vase containing roses, but the vase falls to the ground. The same thing happens in the bathroom with a bottle of perfume: "What happens to me today?" Séverine wonders.

Séverine Husson learned by chance from the address of a brothel: "Madame Anais, Jean Cité de Saumur, 11." Husson asks an appointment that is not present Pierre, but Séverine refuses. Shortly later, it has to Madame Anais (Genevieve Page ). They will agree: Séverine be called Belle de jour and there will be only two to five in the afternoon. Séverine between Anais and homosexual attraction is obvious, though not pursued. With its first client is Séverine, has not yet used.

's not that there are many discussions, Anais and the client go for the prominent and Séverine is forced to do what they came into the brothel of Madame Anais. In the end, is met: more coarse are the customers better. Must be the opposite of the kindness of her husband Pierre. Back in his beautiful home, Séverine burning in the fireplace wearing undergarments that afternoon. Reveries then be dressed in white and tied with Pierre Husson and the sprinkle of castings of manure.

It takes time to acquire expertise in any profession. So Séverine is refused by the gynecologist masochistic because their part is not good. The expert Madame Anais gynecologist decides that we go with another girl and Séverine can peer through a peephole. Séverine learn with diligence and we see a lot more loose with a client that shows the eastern muscles and came with a nice chime.

Séverine Another fantasy is to be conducted in the palace-castle of a Duke ( Georges Marchal). You must play the part of -virgin-veiled naked in a coffin. Everything seems to be going well, but in the end, the butler will drive in the rain.

One day, Madame Anais happen a long time client who was not. This is Hyppolite ( Francisco Rabal), a gangster who has the habit of choosing between girls seeing them all together. Would you choose Belle de jour , who has never seen before. But he came in company with another gangster, his junior, a friend and student. This is Marcel (Pierre Clementi ) asking in no uncertain terms that he himself was to go with Belle de jour . Hyppolite gives it to him and nothing would seem more of a strange relationship between a woman and as a delinquent Severine crude, lame, violent, toothless and full of scars as Marcel. Yet the relationship works in a certain way, the two fall in love with each other.

Adesso è lui il più forte, può raccontare Pierre everything at any time. So, Séverine disappears. He knows he is blackmail and should not be more Madame Anais, who is deprived of his address. In a fantasy, he sees the duel between the gun and Pierre Husson where she is to be hit.

ssossionato The haunting and Marcel does not give up, unable to know where he lives Séverine and entered his house. He wants to know who the man with whom he is Séverine, who barely gets him out of the house. Marcel hides the street, waits for Pierre and fires three shots. Then he runs away, chased by police cars. It will be shot dead a few streets away.

Séverine is finally quiet. Pierre attends day and night, half-blind and paralyzed, he does not know why he shot the stranger's gangster. One day they will present Husson and Séverine tells Pierre that will reveal the truth, so you do not feel guilty of being watched constantly by her. When Husson out after talking with Pierre, Pierre Séverine goes and finds him dead in an armchair. Ends up?

not said Séverine lacemaking Pierre and appears in her robe, completely recovered. Séverine Pierre and toast together. At the end of the movie shows the carriage, that of the beginning. There are his coachmen, you hear the sound of bells, but the carriage is empty.
